NY Assembly Passes Fracking Health Study Bill

Law360, New York (June 20, 2012, 6:21 PM EDT) -- The New York State Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill requiring a health impact assessment examining high-volume hydraulic fracturing activities in the state, as Democratic legislators stressed the need to examine the public health effects of the controversial natural gas extraction method.

The study, which would be conducted by a school of public health within the state university system, would look at air quality, contamination of drinking water, and impacts on childhood development, as well as the costs associated with any impacts on public health....
