High Court Says Extra Union Dues Must Be Opt-In

Law360, New York (June 21, 2012, 12:00 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the Service Employees International Union ran afoul of the First Amendment by imposing a fee hike on California public employees to cover political expenses without providing fresh notice, saying public sector unions should only take extra fees from nonmembers who opt in.
