House Passes GOP Energy Package Despite Veto Threat

Law360, New York (June 21, 2012, 4:19 PM EDT) -- Defying yet another presidential veto threat, congressional Republicans on Thursday passed a broad industry-friendly energy package designed to speed up onshore oil and gas drilling and delay U.S. Environmental Protection Agency air pollution rules.

H.R. 4480, a roll-up of seven bills introduced separately over the last year, passed 248-163 in the GOP-controlled chamber. It would force the Obama administration to increase oil and gas leasing on federal lands if it draws oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and would also delay the implementation of EPA air...
