9th Circ. Sanctions Enviro Atty Over Ski Resort Suit

Law360, New York (June 21, 2012, 9:18 PM EDT) -- The Ninth Circuit on Thursday sanctioned an attorney for environmental groups that challenged an artificial snow facility at an Arizona ski resort, ordering him to pay court costs for "grossly abusing" the justice system by bringing a 2009 lawsuit to delay the project.

A three-judge panel levied the sanctions on Howard M. Shanker in response to a motion from Arizona Snowbowl Resort Ltd. Partnership, which had asked the appeals court to order plaintiffs to pay court costs. Instead, the judges decided to make the lawyer pay....
