Union Asks High Court To Stick Firm With Pension Exit Cost

Law360, New York (June 22, 2012, 5:47 PM EDT) -- A Sixth Circuit ruling that left a union on the hook for the withdrawal liability a roofing supply company incurred when it left a multiemployer pension plan conflicts with public policy and U.S. Supreme Court precedent, the union has said in a petition seeking high court review.

General Drivers, Warehousemen and Helpers Local Union No. 89 filed a petition for a writ of certiorari on June 14, targeting a March appeals court ruling that said the union was required to indemnify Shelter Distribution Inc. for $57,291.50...
