Texas High Court Kills $34M Paradigm Oil Royalty Judgment

Law360, New York (June 25, 2012, 5:56 PM EDT) -- The Texas Supreme Court on Friday overturned a $34 million judgment in an oil and gas royalty dispute, finding that for the third time, the trial court had improperly awarded damages against Paradigm Oil Inc. and three affiliates.

In reversing the judgment, the court ruled that the trial court’s decision to bar Paradigm from participating in a hearing on damages was excessive, as it had already struck Paradigm’s pleadings and allowed Retamco Operating Inc. to take a default judgment on liability.
