Liberty Mutual Looks To Duck Covering Linn In Pollution Case

Law360, New York (June 25, 2012, 6:32 PM EDT) -- Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. on Monday hit Linn Energy LLC with a lawsuit in Texas claiming it is not obligated to defend the oil and gas developer in underlying litigation blaming Linn for pollution leaked from a Louisiana pipeline that allegedly caused extensive property damage.

The suit was filed the same day Linn announced plans to pay more than $1 billion for 12,500 acres in BP America Production Co.'s upstream Wyoming natural gas operation and that its newly formed rights-owning subsidiary filed for a $1 billion...
