Small Biz Contractors Take Aim At Prison Work Program

Law360, New York (June 28, 2012, 6:55 PM EDT) -- Small business groups urged Congress on Thursday to prevent a prison work program from taking government contract opportunities away from small businesses, voicing support for legislation that would strip the government-sponsored prisoner workforce of its privileged procurement status.

Federal Prison Industries, commonly known as Unicor, employs prisoners in a range of manufacturing and service jobs, and competes for government contracts under the same privileged rules as small businesses.
