Calif. Panel OKs Expansion Of Family Caregiver Protections

Law360, San Diego (June 28, 2012, 10:57 PM EDT) -- A California Senate panel on Tuesday approved a bill that aims to prevent employers from discriminating against workers who care for their children or other family members, despite opposition that the measure is overly broad and would expose companies to more litigation.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 3-1 to pass A.B. 1999, which would bar companies from considering an individual’s status as a caregiver for a family member as a factor in employment decisions. The bill now advances to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
