Calif. Miners Threaten To Sue Over Gold Mining Ban

Law360, San Diego (June 29, 2012, 8:22 PM EDT) -- California miners are threatening to sue after Gov. Jerry Brown on Wednesday signed off on the state budget that contained a measure to extend a ban on a controversial gold mining technique indefinitely.

The moratorium on issuing new permits for for the gold mining process known as suction dredging was set to expire in 2016, but the measure in a budget trailer bill repeals the deadline and keeps the ban in place until new rules mitigate any significant environmental impacts and a fee structure is put...
