Ford Asks For Mass Tort Designation Of Landfill Suits

Law360, New York (September 21, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Contending that most of the plaintiffs' claims are similar, Ford Motor Co. and two co-defendants have asked a New Jersey Superior Court to bundle around 45 suits seeking damages for health and environmental hazards from a toxic landfill into one mass tort.

The automobile company argued that the claims of the 656 plaintiffs arose from the same set of facts and pled similar injuries. Thus, a mass tort designation would save all sides money while making the cases more efficient.
