Firefighter Re-Settles Racial Bias Suit For $1.5M

Law360, New York (September 24, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Los Angeles City Council voted Friday to pay about $1.5 million to settle a racial harassment lawsuit brought by a black firefighter who was served dog food in his spaghetti.

Under the settlement, firefighter Tennie Pierce will resign from the fire department and drop all claims against the city. He will receive $1.43 million in damages, plus $60,000 in back pay and a service pension of half his salary for life. Each party will bear their own legal costs.
