Enviros Fight Shell's Arctic Oil Spill Response Plans

Law360, New York (July 10, 2012, 4:58 PM EDT) -- A coalition of environmental groups filed suit Tuesday to block the Obama administration’s approval of Shell Offshore Inc.’s oil spill response plans for its proposal to drill in the Arctic Ocean, claiming offshore regulators overlooked a range of safety and environmental issues.

Earthjustice, the Sierra Club and eight other groups asked an Alaska federal court to vacate the U.S. Department of the Interior’s decisions green-lighting Shell’s plans, saying the agency’s review flouted federal environmental law requirements.
