Cointreau Sues To Block Rival Product From US Market

Law360, New York (July 13, 2012, 4:52 PM EDT) -- Cointreau Corp. filed a trademark infringement suit in Texas federal court Wednesday to stop Mexican orange liqueur Controy from being sold in the U.S., claiming the name and bottle design of the rival product is too similar to its own.

Cointreau alleges that the name, label design and the “short, squat bottle” of Controy infringe three trademarks owned by the company, and says sales of Controy in California and Texas have caused irreparable harm to Cointreau's good will and reputation.
