GOP Rep. Wants To Open CBO Numbers To More Scrutiny

Law360, New York (July 17, 2012, 7:07 PM EDT) -- The Congressional Budget Office, a nonpartisan agency whose cost estimates are instrumental in the legislative process, would have to reveal more of the data and formulas it uses to reach those estimates under a bill a Republican congressman announced Monday.

Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Pa., said the CBO, which estimates the budgetary impact of major legislative proposals, should be more transparent about how it reaches its cost estimates. He specifically pointed to changes in CBO scores related to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
