Bill Boosting Customs' Duty Enforcement Passes Senate Panel

Law360, New York (July 18, 2012, 5:35 PM EDT) -- The Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday approved a bill requiring customs agents to quickly investigate claims that importers are evading countervailing and anti-dumping duties.

The Enforcing Orders and Reducing Customs Evasion Act, or Enforce Act, would allow domestic producers to petition U.S. Customs and Border Protection for probes into possible violations of duty orders and would establish strict timelines and procedures for the agency's response, shifting the burden of anti-circumvention measures from the U.S. Department of Commerce, which currently administers all anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders....
