Ex-Ohio Official Can't Shake Bribery Conviction

Law360, New York (July 19, 2012, 3:37 PM EDT) -- A Cleveland-area official convicted for taking bribes from construction companies in exchange for lucrative government contracts lost his bid on Wednesday to throw out the case after an Ohio federal judge said evidence clearly tied him to the graft.

U.S. District Judge Sara Lioi said in an opinion that former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora failed to prove that his convictions on extortion and fraud charges were based on flimsy evidence. Judge Lioi also denied Dimora's bid for a new trial.
