Orbitz Can't Bundle Insurance Into Airfare Price, EU Court Says

Law360, New York (July 19, 2012, 6:14 PM EDT) -- An Orbitz Worldwide Inc. affiliate can't automatically include flight cancellation insurance in the airline tickets it sells online without giving German consumers the ability to opt in first, Europe's highest court ruled Thursday.

A five-judge panel of the Court of Justice of the European Union found that an EU regulation that mandates "optional price supplements" be communicated clearly to consumers applied even if it was a third party that was selling the ticket and not the airline itself.
