New SBA Policy Expands Eligibility For Utilities Contractors

Law360, New York (July 20, 2012, 3:48 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Small Business Association on Thursday proposed new standards for several utilities industries that would allow an estimated 400 additional firms to be classified as small business contractors and qualify for federal assistance programs.

Covering electric power generation, distribution and transmission and water supply firms, the changes are expected to increase the small business share of total industry receipts from 21 percent to 27 percent, and lead to around 10 to 15 additional loans with a total of $2 million to $3 million in loan...
