Japan's Chances Look Slim In Bid To Join TPP Talks

Law360, New York (July 23, 2012, 9:20 PM EDT) -- Adding Japan to the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade talks would potentially have significant benefits for U.S. companies, but opposition from key industries in both countries likely means Japan's bid to join the talks faces dim prospects in the near future, attorneys said.

Japan expressed an interest in joining negotiations for the multilateral free trade agreement in November, along with Canada and Mexico. But while the two North American countries were added to the TPP mix last month, there has been little movement in adding Japan.
