Number Of Securities Class Action Deals Fall In 2012

Law360, New York (July 23, 2012, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The number of securities class action settlements have plunged in the first half of 2012 but the average settlement amount of $71 million is more than twice last year's $31 million average, according to a report released Tuesday.

The number of securities class action settlements in 2012 is projected to be at its lowest since 1999 at its current pace where only 49 cases have settled as of June, and the estimated total for the year is 98, compared to 123 settlements in 2011 and lower...
