VMware Lays Down $1.3B For Computer Networking Firm

Law360, San Diego (July 23, 2012, 10:27 PM EDT) -- VMware Inc. said Monday it is acquiring Nicira Inc., a Palo Alto, Calif.-based computer networking and virtualization company, for nearly $1.3 billion.

VMware, which is majority owned by information storage company EMC Corp., signed a definitive agreement to pick up the firm for about $1.05 billion in cash and about $210 million in assumed unvested equity awards. The deal is expected to close during the second half of this year.
