DOI Picks 17 Hot Zones To Fast-Track Solar Power

Law360, New York (July 24, 2012, 4:58 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration on Tuesday opened 17 vast tracts across California and five other western states to fast-track solar power projects, laying out a road map for developers to sidestep environmental assessments and pick up financial perks.

After more than two years of study and twice extending the public comment period, the U.S. Department of the Interior identified 285,000 acres that combine strong sunlight as well as fewer of the headaches, like desert tortoise populations or ancient burial grounds, that have thwarted developers so far....
