White House Threatens To Veto GOP Offshore Lease Plan

Law360, New York (July 24, 2012, 5:02 PM EDT) -- The White House on Monday threatened to veto a Republican-backed bill that would replace the Obama administration’s offshore leasing program with a new plan that offers twice as many lease sales and opens the Atlantic and Pacific coasts for drilling.

In a statement of administration policy, President Barack Obama’s senior advisers said they would recommend he veto H.R. 6082, arguing it would curtail environmental protections and disregard oil spill response issues.
