House GOP Passes Extensive Offshore Drilling Bill

Law360, New York (July 25, 2012, 7:29 PM EDT) -- The Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives dealt a harsh rebuke to President Barack Obama's domestic energy plan Wednesday, rejecting the administration's offshore drilling plan and passing a plan that calls for far more drilling by 2017.

The House voted largely along party lines to revoke the administration's drilling plan for 2012-17, which called for 12 potential lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and three off the coast of Alaska. The vote was 261-164 to revoke the president's plan, which had been introduced by the U.S....
