Chicago Pols, Businessmen Charged In Corruption Probe

Law360, New York (July 27, 2012, 9:18 PM EDT) -- Two former Chicago-area public officials and six businessmen were formally indicted on corruption charges Thursday in a federal crackdown on the region's pay-to-play political culture. 

Between 2009 and 2010, former Cook County Commissioner Joseph Mario Moreno and former Chicago Alderman Ambrosio Medrano allegedly accepted bribes in return for using their political influence to steer lucrative government contracts toward businesses, according to a grand jury indictment.
