BellSouth To Pay $2M For Inflating Line Damage Charges

Law360, New York (July 30, 2012, 4:38 PM EDT) -- BellSouth Telecommunications Inc. agreed Monday in Florida federal court to pay $2.1 million to resolve a long-running class action that accused the company of wrongfully marking up reimbursement charges for damage to its underground telephone lines.

U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan signed off on the deal Monday.

“The court finds that the settlement is fair, reasonable and adequate ... was reached at arm’s length without collusion or fraud; and satisfies all of the requirements for final approval,” Judge Corrigan said. He also approved BellSouth's payment...
