Gevo Fires Back In Biofuel Patent War With BP, DuPont

Law360, New York (July 31, 2012, 5:08 PM EDT) -- Biofuels company Gevo Inc. fired the latest volley in its ongoing patent dispute with DuPont Co. and BP PLC on Monday, suing the petrochemical giants in Texas federal court for allegedly infringing a brand-new patent for ethanol-alternative biofuel.

Gevo accused Butamax Advanced Biofuels LLC — a joint venture of DuPont and BP — of infringing its newest patent for the production of isobutanol, which hadn't even been formally issued when the company lodged the suit. The patent was officially registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark...
