UK Watchdog Says Expedia, Fixed Hotel Prices

Law360, New York (July 31, 2012, 5:10 PM EDT) -- One of the U.K.'s competition watchdogs said Tuesday that it believed Expedia Inc. and B.V. had violated British antitrust law by conspiring with InterContinental Hotels Group PLC to fix prices for hotel rooms.

The Office of Fair Trading alleged that the leading online booking companies each signed deals with InterContinental — the largest hotel chain in the world — agreeing not to discount the prices for room-only hotel accommodations, meaning reservations that don't include air travel.
