HP Wins Round In $4B Contract Row Over Oracle Software

Law360, New York (August 1, 2012, 8:44 PM EDT) -- Hewlett-Packard Co. on Wednesday won a battle in its $4 billion contract fight with Oracle Corp., when a California state judge ruled that an agreement resolving Oracle's alleged poaching of former HP executive Mark Hurd requires Oracle to continue to run its software on HP servers.

In a preliminary ruling filed in Santa Clara County court, Judge James P. Kleinberg said the plain language of the 2010 settlement "can only be reasonably interpreted as requiring Oracle to continue offering its product suite on HP's Itanium platforms."...
