House Approves New Sanctions Against Iran's Energy Fronts

Law360, New York (August 1, 2012, 9:44 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved a new package of sanctions designed to cripple Iran's energy sector and force the country to abandon its alleged nuclear ambitions.

In a 421-6 vote, the legislators approved the bipartisan legislation that effectively blacklists the Iranian energy industry and anyone doing business with it, according to the chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla.

“This bipartisan, bicameral Iran sanctions legislation strengthens current U.S. law by leaps and bounds,” Ros-Lehtinen said in a statement...
