Senate Shuts Down Bipartisan Cybersecurity Bill

Law360, New York (August 2, 2012, 5:22 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Senate on Thursday blocked White House-backed efforts to pass bipartisan cybersecurity legislation before its August recess, but the bill's supporters vowed to continue their push for the bill aimed at better protecting the nation's critical infrastructure from high-tech attacks.

In a 52-46 vote, the Senate rejected a motion to invoke cloture on S. 3414, the Cybersecurity Act of 2012, which would have incentivized critical infrastructure operators to follow voluntary cybersecurity practices and facilitated the sharing of information between the private and public sector.
