NJ Jury Awards Ex-Trooper $1M Over Whistleblower Suit

Law360, New York (August 2, 2012, 7:51 PM EDT) -- A former New Jersey State Police trooper who sued the department under the state's whistleblower law for allegedly failing to act on discrimination complaints and retaliating against him for voicing concerns was awarded more than $1 million by a jury on Wednesday.

The jury in Essex County Superior Court sided with retired trooper Brian Royster in finding that the state police and Superintendent Rick Fuentes violated the state Conscientious Employee Protection Act, The Star-Ledger reported, quoting the plaintiff's attorney.
