Class Wants Chesapeake Excluded From $19M BP Settlement

Law360, New York (August 3, 2012, 9:04 PM EDT) -- Chesapeake Energy Corp. shouldn't be allowed to participate in a $19 million BP America Production Co. settlement over alleged royalty underpayments on natural gas leases, a class of royalty owners told a Kansas federal court Thursday, saying Chesapeake's interests weren't aligned with the rest of the settlement class.

Chesapeake, the second largest producer of natural gas in the U.S., is also a class member in the case, settled by BP in July. The plaintiffs sued BP in September 2007 on behalf of a class of royalty...
