Judge Triples Damages, Bars Sales In Zeiss Lens Patent Suit

Law360, New York (August 7, 2012, 6:16 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Monday tripled the damages a jury had awarded eyeglass maker Carl Zeiss Vision International GmbH in its patent suit against rival Signet Armorlite Inc., and also ordered Signet to pull any infringing eyeglasses from store shelves.

Affirming a verdict that found Signet had willfully infringed Zeiss' patent for spherical optical lenses, U.S. District Judge Dana M. Sabraw said the company had ignored numerous warnings from employees it might be infringing Zeiss's technology.
