Canada's Antitrust Cop To Review BCE’s $3.4B Astral Bid

Law360, New York (August 7, 2012, 8:37 PM EDT) -- Canada’s Competition Bureau is taking a closer look at Canadian telecommunications giant BCE Inc.’s plans to scoop up Montreal-based Astral Media Inc. for CA$3.38 billion (US$3.4 billion) after rivals expressed reservations about the deal, the bureau said Tuesday.

The antitrust watchdog's move comes after the heads of cable and media companies Cogeco Cable Inc., Eastlink and Quebecor Inc. launched a website Tuesday urging television viewers to call on the bureau, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission and the government of Canada to stop the proposed merger,...
