NY Poised To Give Employers Leeway On Wage Deductions

Law360, New York (August 10, 2012, 8:57 PM EDT) -- Legislation awaiting a signature from New York's governor that expands an employer's ability to make voluntary deductions from employee wages will restore welcome flexibility to an area currently restricted by narrow interpretations from state labor regulators, attorneys say.

The bill, passed by the state Senate and Assembly on June 21, amends the New York Labor Law by broadening the scope of permissible deductions from consenting employees' wages, including permitting deductions that the New York Department of Labor had deemed unacceptable in recent years.
