Texas Attorney Can't Beat Suspension Over Settlement Fight

Law360, New York (August 10, 2012, 7:57 PM EDT) -- A Texas appeals court on Thursday denied an attorney’s bid to overturn the suspension of his law license, which came after allegations that he failed to make disbursements to clients from an $823,000 settlement with Union Carbide Corp. following a plant explosion.

The Thirteenth Court of Appeals upheld attorney Stephen T. Leas’ five-year suspension, ruling that testimony from eight former clients supported the jury’s verdict, despite the fact Leas presented evidence purportedly showing the clients had been paid.
