Goldman To Rake In $636M With Sale Of Japanese Contractor

Law360, New York (August 10, 2012, 2:25 PM EDT) -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has agreed to unload Japanese construction company Fujita Corp. to Daiwa House Industry Co. Ltd., Japan's largest homebuilder, for 50 billion yen ($636 million), Daiwa said Friday, continuing Goldman's trend of shedding assets.

Under the deal, Goldman will spin off the contractor at a small premium over the ¥45 billion it paid for the company in a multiphase buyout that closed out in 2008. The New York firm had been active in Japan for nearly two decades, but has recently begun easing...
