Cuomo Signs Bill To Limit Out-Of-State Telemarketing Into NY

Law360, New York (August 14, 2012, 1:20 PM EDT) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Tuesday extending New York's anti-telemarketing abuse laws beyond the borders of the Empire State, making hundreds of outfits in nearby states subject to fines and possible criminal charges for violations.

Prerecorded calls from states like New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Vermont, where more than a thousand such outfits are registered, can now only be placed into New York upon the consent of the recipient, according to the legislation sponsored by Long Island Republican Sen.
