EU Takes In-Depth Look At Thomson-Reuters Union

Law360, New York (October 9, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Responding to significant concerns about potential anti-competitive effects on the financial information market, the European Commission has opened an in-depth probe into the proposed $17.5 billion merger of Thomson Corp. and Reuters Group PLC.

“The commission's initial market investigation indicates that the proposed merger would raise serious doubts as regards adverse effects on the competition in several markets of the financial information sector,” the EC said on Monday. “The decision to open an in-depth inquiry does not prejudge the final result of the investigation.”
