Lawmakers Rip US Plans For Arctic Oil, Gas Leases

Law360, New York (August 14, 2012, 4:21 PM EDT) -- More than 60 members of Congress on Tuesday sent a letter to the U.S. Department of the Interior protesting the proposed sale of oil and gas leases in the Arctic Ocean, saying not enough is known about the potential environmental impact.

The letter follows the department’s June release of its new five-year offshore oil and gas leasing program, which would open new areas of the Gulf of Mexico and offer companies limited access to Alaska's coastal waters.
