German Regulator Says Facebook Not Meeting Privacy Rules

Law360, New York (August 15, 2012, 6:20 PM EDT) -- Facebook Inc.'s refusal to cooperate with a German privacy regulator's requirements regarding the use of its facial recognition tool has forced the overseer to reopen its investigation into the company's doings, the regulator said Wednesday.

The Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, or HmbBfDI, said in an announcement that it was resuming its inquiry into Facebook's contested collection of biometric facial patterns after the social media giant refused to either delete the data it gathered or obtain user approval to collect it....
