Int'l Investment In DOE Grant Winner Provokes Ire From Sens.

Law360, New York (August 15, 2012, 8:23 PM EDT) -- Two top Republican lawmakers called on the U.S. Department of Energy Tuesday to explain whether the agency would continue extending grant money to an advanced battery manufacturer set to become largely owned by a Chinese company.

Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and John Thune, R-S.D., wrote a letter to Secretary of Energy Steven Chu asking whether Massachusetts-based A123 Systems should still receive the remaining $120 million from a nearly $250 million DOE grant it received now that Wanxiang Group Corp. is becoming its largest investor.
