Alpha's $7.1B Massey Merger Draws Securities Class Claim

Law360, Chicago (August 16, 2012, 7:26 PM EDT) -- Alpha Natural Resources Inc. on Thursday removed to West Virginia federal court a putative securities class action brought by Massey Energy Co. shareholders who allege Alpha misrepresented production problems at a coal mine to artificially prop up its stock price before its $7.1 billion purchase of Massey.

In the suit she lodged in state court July 13, lead plaintiff Olivia Niitsoo alleges that Massey shareholders likely would have demanded more for their shares or voted not to approve the June 2011 merger had they known about...
