Apple Targeted In Patent Suit Over Playback Feature

Law360, New York (August 16, 2012, 7:42 PM EDT) -- A California software company slapped Apple Inc. with a patent infringement suit Thursday, accusing the iPhone maker of ripping off its patented technology for changing the playback speed of digital audio recordings.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based EPL Holdings LLC, which sells software that can vary digital playback speed without affecting audio quality, says Apple stole the technology after a series of failed negotiations over a possible licensing deal even though Apple allegedly signed a nondisclosure agreement.
