Rowan Enters Guilty Plea Over Gulf Of Mexico Pollution

Law360, New York (October 10, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Oil and gas drilling firm Rowan Companies Inc. pleaded guilty on Tuesday to three felony counts related to discharging pollutants into the Gulf of Mexico from an offshore oil rig, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

The environmental violations occurred over a two-year period between 2002 and 2004. According to the DOJ, employees on the oil rig Rowan-Midland routinely discharged waste hydraulic oil mixed with water, used paint, paint cans and other pollutants, as well as ordinary garbage, into the Gulf of Mexico.
