Chip Set Imports Don't Breach Freescale Patent, Judge Says

Law360, New York (August 21, 2012, 3:59 PM EDT) -- A U.S. International Trade Commission judge has determined that semiconductor company MediaTek Inc. did not import integrated circuits and chip sets used in televisions that infringe a patent held by Freescale Semiconductor Inc., according to a ruling publicly released Friday.

Texas-based Freescale lodged its complaint in June 2011, asking for exclusion orders against MediaTek, Zoran Corp. and Funai Electric Co. Ltd. for allegedly violating  the Tariff Act by importing products such as televisions that contained chip sets and circuits that infringed the '455 patent. The ITC...
