E.U. Gives Up On Single Biotech Patent System

Law360, New York (July 18, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Still stinging from its defeat in the fight for a single European patent system for software, the European Commission now appears to have given up on harmonizing patents for biotech drug innovations as well.

On Monday, the European Union’s executive body said it would allow countries to adopt different standards instead of insisting on a single European standard for patenting biotech drug innovations.
