Calif. Assembly OKs Bill To Hasten Pipeline Maintenance

Law360, San Diego (August 23, 2012, 10:45 PM EDT) -- The California Assembly on Thursday passed a bill that aims to prevent another pipeline explosion like the deadly 2010 blast in San Bruno, Calif., by exempting small-scale pipeline projects from review under the state’s environmental law so utilities can speed up maintenance and replacement.

The Assembly voted unanimously in favor of A.B. 2564, which would exempt pipeline projects shorter than 1 mile from the California Environmental Quality Act. The measure, authored by Assemblywoman Fiona Ma, D-San Francisco, now heads to the full Senate for review....
